If you have just added your first podcast show, it is now time to upload your first podcast episodes. In this article, we will guide you step by step through the process of uploading your first episode.
It is important to know that you can only upload mp3 files. The size of your files does not matter, and neither does the length of your episode. Audio files cannot be uploaded directly from the cloud, such as directly from Google Drive. When you first download the file and save it on your computer, you can then upload it.
1. Click on the title of your podcast show
2. Click on the 'create episode' button
3. Upload and set up the episode
A screen will open with all the settings you can add and adjust for your episode. Below is everything in order:
- Provide a title for the episode.
- Provide a subtitle for the episode, which will only be shown on your podcast website.
- Provide a description of the episode.
- Choose a publication date. This date determines the order of the episodes of your podcast show.
Important:
- If you upload multiple episodes on the same day, it is advisable to adjust the time notation slightly, so the order is determined by this.
- If you use the mobile app for sharing internal podcast episodes and want users of the app to receive a notification, schedule the episode with a publication date that is 5 minutes later. This way, the system recognises that a notification needs to be sent.
- Upload the artwork for the episode here. Even if this is the same as the artwork of your show, you must upload it again. The image should be 3000 x 3000 pixels and preferably a jpg/png. Make sure the file is not too large and check if the display on the podcast website is as desired. Have you saved the artwork in the Springcast PRO file manager? Then click on 'File Manager' to upload the file directly from the file manager.
-
Upload the audio file of the episode by dragging the file to the PRO dashboard or clicking the 'Upload' button. Have you saved the audio file in the file manager within PRO or worked with the feedback module? Then you can upload the audio file directly from the file manager. Choose the folder 'Files' or 'Projects (feedback module).'
- Upload short video: here you can upload a short video that will be shown in the mobile app for internal podcasts. Does the mobile app not form part of your subscription and do you therefore not use it? Then the video short will not be visible anywhere.
-
Change default settings: if you click on the toggle here, you can add the following settings:
- Provide a season number.
- Provide an episode number. Make sure this follows the last published episode.
- Choose the content type for the episode type: 'Full episode', 'Trailer' or 'Bonus'.
- Indicate whether the episode contains explicit content (swearing, adult content, etc).
- Only provide the author here if it differs from the author of the podcast.
- Copyright disclaimer: declare that no material subject to copyright is included in the audio file. If you have added such material, you must be able to prove that you have bought out/paid the copyrights for the use of the material (for example via Buma Stemra).
Then click the 'Save changes' button
4. Further customise your podcast episode
Besides the 'Episode settings' tab, you can also go to 'Embedded player' to view your player and add chapters, 'Statistics' for the statistics dashboard, 'Marketing' to set your episode on the podcast website.
5. Actually publish the episode
Once you have added all the settings, you will see 'Ready to publish' next to the episode. To publish the episode definitively (or schedule it if the publication date is in the future), click the arrow at the top left. Then click at the show level on the 'Publish changes' button in the purple bar.
Important: only people with a Publisher role can publish the changes. See also the article about roles within a workspace.
6. Changed settings? Always publish your changes
You can make changes to the episode at any time. However, note that you must click 'Publish changes' at the show level (as shown in the image above) to apply the adjustments definitively.
