At Springcast, we take privacy and GDPR very seriously. The introduction of the Springcast MCP does not change our stance on this, but it does impact the flow and processing of your data.
It is important to know: using the Springcast MCP is entirely optional. If you choose not to use it, your data will remain exclusively within the secure borders of the European Union (EU), just as you are used to, and nothing changes.
However, if you choose to connect the MCP to an AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT), please take the following three points regarding your data into account:
1. Processing outside the Springcast environment
As soon as you ask an AI assistant a question via the MCP (for example: "Summarize my latest podcast episode"), the AI retrieves the necessary information from your Springcast account. At that moment, that specific information leaves our secure environment and is processed by the AI provider you are using.
2. Geographical data processing (Outside the EU)
Most popular AI tools, such as those from Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT), primarily process data on servers located in the United States. While Springcast itself continues to run strictly on EU servers, using the MCP connection technically results in a data export to the country where your AI provider is based.
3. Your responsibility as a Data Controller
When you connect the MCP to a third party, you are responsible for the privacy agreements with that party.
Data Processing Agreement (DPA): Check whether you have a valid DPA in place with your AI provider.
Model Training: Check the settings of your AI assistant to see if your data is being used to train their models. In many cases, specifically with business accounts (like Claude Team or ChatGPT Enterprise), you can opt out of this.
In summary: The Springcast MCP is a powerful tool to speed up your workflow, but it acts as a bridge to a third party. We recommend always reviewing the privacy terms of your chosen AI client before activating the connection.
